To the wonderful team we met unexpectedly:
You were the strength we needed in that moment. I can’t imagine what that day would’ve been like without you. You brought my 12‑year‑old brother back to the present with your words, held my mom as she cried, comforted my dad, and understood my sister. Your kindness calmed my 16‑year‑old brother when it was time to go to the funeral home. You stayed until you knew we were safe. We wish we could thank you with a hug. Though we wish we’d met under different circumstances, we are eternally grateful for the kindness, understanding, and peace you brought us on December 29, 2022.
Like everything in life, I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t been there. Sometimes it’s the places you did not want to be that make you proud to be part of the friends and team who were with you. They helped shape you into the person you are today.
I want to again express my thanks to you and the other crisis team members for the comfort and support you offered me. THANK YOU, and God bless you for creating such a wonderful service. I was in a daze following the accident and death of my brother, and your wonderful team helped me navigate what I needed to do.
You truly are making a difference in people's lives. Thanks for helping me navigate the worst tragedy of my life. You guys are ROCK STARS!
Routt County Crisis support was truly instrumental in the healing process for me and our group. They reached out very early on and we were able to hold a debriefing the day after our tragedy of losing a close friend. This really helped everyone there understand the situation, what we were feeling and that it was normal. RCCS initiated another meeting a week after as well which was very valuable as we continued on the healing process. Through RCCS, many in our group saw how valuable the counseling process was and have continued sessions. Without the services provided by RCCS, I am positive that many of us who experienced this tragedy would be in a much different place than we are now.
You just showed up the day after I had an unsuccessful hour-long bout of AED-laced CPR. It was on a snowy two-track in North Routt, with a fallen hunter in the fall of 2021. I wasn’t by myself; I knew I had a strong team; we have been through many challenges, from stormy night high-mountain elk retrievals to tobogganing a large skier down the mountain with a broken neck. I did not realize a bigger team had my back as well. I'm sharing because you are on my team and had my back that day for the future me.
